Description
The Rolling Stones – Their Satanic Majesties Request
Released: 1967 | Decca Records | TXS 103 | Original UK Pressing | LP
Their Satanic Majesties Request is one of the most distinctive and adventurous albums in The Rolling Stones’ catalogue. Released in December 1967, it captures the band at the height of the psychedelic era, moving well beyond their blues and R&B foundations into experimental studio production, unusual arrangements, sound effects and swirling psychedelic textures.
The album features some of the Stones’ most memorable psychedelic recordings, including She’s a Rainbow, 2000 Light Years From Home, Citadel and 2000 Man. The production is deliberately expansive and unconventional, with Brian Jones making particularly prominent use of keyboards, Mellotron and other instruments to create the album’s colourful, otherworldly atmosphere.
For collectors, the original UK Decca pressing is especially notable for its distinctive lenticular 3D gatefold sleeve, one of the most recognisable covers of the psychedelic era. The original stereo pressing carries catalogue number TXS 103, while the mono edition was issued as TXL 103.
