Lucky Star was one of the defining early singles from Madonna, capturing the emerging star at the beginning of her career with its infectious blend of dance-pop, disco and early-1980s synth-driven production. Written by Madonna and produced by Reggie Lucas, the song became one of the standout tracks from her self-titled 1983 debut album.

The original UK 12-inch release is particularly appealing to collectors. Issued by Sire Records in September 1983 as catalogue W9522T, it features the full-length version of Lucky Star backed by I Know It. Early copies are also noted for the distinctive and relatively scarce sunglasses picture sleeve, making this an especially recognisable piece of early Madonna vinyl.
