Wish is The Cure’s ninth studio album and one of their defining records of the early 1990s. Released in April 1992, it combines the band’s darker, atmospheric sound with brighter melodies and some of their most accessible songwriting. Produced by Robert Smith and Dave Allen and recorded at The Manor in Oxfordshire, the album marked a particularly expansive period for the band.

From the huge opening of Open and the sweeping From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea through to the contrasting optimism of Friday I’m in Love, Wish moves effortlessly between dense guitars, melancholy atmospherics and infectious pop hooks. Other highlights include High, Apart, A Letter to Elise and the beautiful closing track End.

The original UK vinyl edition was issued as a double LP on Fiction Records, with catalogue number FIXH 20 / Polydor 513 261-1. The four sides allow the album’s long-form arrangements plenty of room to breathe, making the original vinyl edition particularly appealing to Cure collectors.
