Back in Black is one of the defining albums in AC/DC’s catalogue and one of the landmark hard rock records of the 1980s. Released in 1980 following the death of original vocalist Bon Scott, it introduced Brian Johnson as the band’s new frontman and marked a powerful new chapter for Angus and Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd.

Produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange and recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, the album is built around AC/DC’s trademark combination of huge guitar riffs, driving rhythms and instantly memorable choruses. From the opening tolling bells of Hells Bells through Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long and Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution, it is an exceptionally consistent and influential hard rock album.

The original Australian release on Albert Productions is especially interesting to collectors. Catalogue APLP-046 copies feature the distinctive embossed black sleeve and a fold-out printed insert, with early copies identifiable by the MAXICUT markings in the run-out grooves.
