Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the fifth studio album from Black Sabbath and one of the band’s most accomplished and adventurous records. Released in December 1973, it finds Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward expanding the band’s trademark heavy sound with progressive arrangements, keyboards, acoustic passages and a greater sense of studio experimentation.

The album opens with the unmistakable title track, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, before moving through the intricate A National Acrobat, the atmospheric instrumental Fluff and the driving Sabbra Cadabra. Side two continues with Killing Yourself to Live, the unsettling Who Are You, Looking for Today and the expansive Spiral Architect. The record demonstrates just how broad Black Sabbath’s musical palette had become by this stage of their career.

The original UK edition was issued by WWA Records as catalogue WWA 005 in a distinctive gatefold sleeve, complete with lyric inner sleeve. Later UK editions appeared on NEMS and other labels, making the original WWA pressing an especially interesting piece for collectors of early Black Sabbath vinyl.
